Ryoko Gibson

GYROKINESIS® LEVEL 1 AND PILATES TRAINER

Ryoko Gibson began dancing at age 5 in Japan and in order to pursue career decided to move to New York City in 1982. She studied at the Joffrey Ballet School, Alvin Ailey School, Martha Graham school and Finis Jhung ballet studio. She appeared in Radio City Hall and the national tour of “The Wizard of Oz” and Rudolf Nureyev’s “King & I”, “Kismet”, Jack Wagner ‘s “Butterfly” at Summer Stock Musical Theater, Bill Cosby Show, “Tank Girl” Movie and Music Videos. 

She retired from dancing and began learning Pilates in 1997. She completed teacher training in Core Dynamics Plus, which evolved from the work of Joseph H. Pilates and Eve Gentry and was certified by Michele Larsson in 1999. 

She received her GYROTONIC® Level 1 and ARCHWAY(TM) certification in 2008 and GYROKINESIS® certification in 2012.  She became GYROTONIC® Level 1 Pre Trainer in 2013 and received her GYROTONIC® Level 2 Program1 & 2 certification in 2016, Jumping Stretching Board in 2019 and GYROTONER® in 2023.  She is taking continuing education courses including GYROTONIC® application for Osteoporosis, Shoulder, Hip and Spine, GYROKINESIS® application for Lotus Blossom Program 1 and Nerve Strengthening Sequence. 

She had taught at Moving Breath Pilates (Tempe, AZ), Phoenician Resort Hotel (Phoenix,AZ), Mesa Community College (Mesa, AZ), Community Center (Newport Beach, CA), Ando & Aston Physical Wellness Therapy (Anaheim Hills, CA), Academy of Dance (Tustin, CA), Balance in Form (Costa Mesa, CA), Full Circle Yoga and Momentum Dance Center (Yorba Linda, CA). 

She has been the studio owner of ‘Transformation Wellness Center” in Yorba Linda, CA since May in 2014. Based on her knowledge and experiences, she is willing to work with all ages and different backgrounds.

Love love Gyrotonic exercise and Ryoko! I was looking for a personal trainer, but did not want to do the typical work out. I was never the type to be able to commit to any fitness centers or work out of any kind except for some home training. I randomly came across watching someone on YouTube doing a Gyrotonic work out, and I just knew it was what I needed in my life. Kept searching and searching, and found Ryoko was conveniently located close to my home. It’s already been over a year, and I do not have any plans of stopping my sessions with her. Ryoko is a wonderful instructor, super patient, and detailed (she will not rest until you are in THE perfect position.) I am so happy I took up Gyrotonic, I always look forward to my twice weekly sessions. It has really helped my body stay fit, strengthened my posture, and strengthened my core. To me, Gyrotonic exercise feels better than a massage. The whole work out really works you from the inside out, releasing all the built up tensions in your muscles. I am so grateful that I found Ryoko and the Gyrotonic method!

Ryoko Gibson has been instructing me at the Transformation Wellness Center for more than five years. She has a great knowledge of the body and Gyrotonic exercise. Most of the class is completed while sitting on a stool and stretching, while the remainder of the class involves balance and weight lifting. I first started Gyrotonic exercise when I was in a slump in my exercise / movement life.  I still loved and believed in everything I was doing (yoga, ballet, Pilates, personal training), and yet, I wanted to dive into something really different.  So I contacted Ryoko to begin Gyrotonic exercises.  Trying the Gyrotonic method at first really made me feel so uncoordinated - which was good!  Gyrotonic exercises were waking up my body and mind to new feelings, new challenges, new movements outside of all the training I already had.  Now, these many years later, the learning continues, and I love it!   I feel rejuvenated, lighter, taller, stronger, after each session, and I enjoy the sense of accomplishment I get when Ryoko takes me into a new exercise.  She’s a great teacher, with a good sense of what you can really do.  The sessions are never routine.  Ryoko tailors each workout to where you are on that day, what you need, what will be the most beneficial for your body and your mind.  My advice for someone thinking of doing Gyrotonic exercises?  Do it.  Give yourself the time and space to learn about yourself in a totally new way.  Be patient with the movements and your own ability to execute them.  Then, have fun with how great you feel doing all that you enjoy.
